Stop teaching the locals slang, and start introducing them to the Grateful Dead. ;)

Be safe...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257037200975953029.post-42253427477783399732007-03-07T01:41:00.000-05:002007-03-07T01:41:00.000-05:00Fantastic volcano pics! When I was doing this seven...Fantastic volcano pics!

When I was doing this seven years ago in Nicaragua, during my first week my host family and I were woken up at 3am by what seemed to be an earthquake. We spent the rest of the night hanging out on the front porch, so that if the house collapsed in the middle of the night we wouldn't all be buried under the terra cotta roof tiles.

Turned out it was not an earthquake at all, but the local volcano erupting. The apparently dead volcano we had been climbing around the day before. Worse, against all odds, the news of the event traveled all the way to Kansas, and my normally angelic mother was muy pissada that it took me three days to call home so she could verify I was still alive.

Moral of the story: everything is a little less safe than the locals make it out to be. And call your mom frequently.Leahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16969854023072726115noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257037200975953029.post-22761866674535998772007-03-07T00:19:00.000-05:002007-03-07T00:19:00.000-05:00Love all the pictures - your travel blog is looki...Love all the pictures - your travel blog is looking like US Weekly.
